Egypt and South Sudan Review Progress of Solar-Powered Water Projects

During the 6th edition of Cairo Water Week, Minister of Irrigation and Land Reclamation, Hani Sweilam, engaged in discussions with his South Sudanese counterpart regarding the status of eight solar-powered underground water pumping stations. Egypt has successfully constructed 20 such stations in South Sudan, along with four rainwater harvesting dams.

In May, Egyptian Ambassador to Juba, Moataz Mostafa Abdel Qader, met with South Sudanese Vice-President for Infrastructure Cluster, Taban Deng Gai, to provide updates on various projects initiated by Egypt in the country.

These projects span across irrigation, water resources, flood control, and the overhaul of power plants in Yambio and Rumbek, executed in collaboration with the Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development.

The South Sudanese vice-president commended Egypt’s efforts in supporting the local population by enhancing living conditions through infrastructure development in critical sectors such as irrigation, water resources, electricity, and energy.
