Gen Francis Ogolla Takes Over as Kenya’s New Military Boss

General Francis Ogolla has officially taken over as the new Chief of Defense Forces.

In a colourful ceremony that also saw the exit of Robert Kibochi, Ogolla pledged to steer the Kenya Defense Forces towards professionalism and ensure it does not fall victim to the whims of the political class.

The career serviceman took over the reign in a colourful and often symbolic ceremony at the Ulinzi Complex and the Department of Defense Headquarters in Nairobi.

General Ogolla is promising to ensure the Kenya Defense Forces remain apolitical.

After more than two years at the helm of Kenya’s military, Kibochi has expressed confidence that the military will stay grounded and mission ready.

Defense Cabinet Secretary Adan Duale said in General Ogolla, the Kenya Defense Forces had found a progressive Chief of Staff.

As Kibochi rides into the sunset, General Ogolla takes up the most coveted medal in Kenya’s military.

He will in the coming years be responsible for the progress of an army whose responsibilities and influence have continued to grow across the region.
