The headquarters of the NGO ‘No Peace Without Justice’ (‘There is no peace without justice’) in Rome, which includes Niccolò Figà-Talamanca, already arrested in the Qatargate investigation, was searched. To perform it solo of the pg of the Palace of Justice in Milan in the presence and on the order of the Belgian judiciary. The house of the treasurer of the association, Antonella Casu, was also searched, who was heard by the investigators.

Niccolò Figà-Talamanca, accused of complicity with Panzeri’s network, was arrested on December 9 together with Antonio Panzeri himself, Francesco Giorgi and Eva Kaili. He was then released in early February.

‘No peace without justice’ is an international non-profit association founded by Emma Bonino and born in 1993 from a campaign by the Transnational Radical Party “which works for the protection and promotion of human rights, democracy, the rule of law and international justice,” reads the website. Association of which Niccolò Figà-Talamanca is temporarily self-suspended general secretary (since 12 December 2022), precisely because of his involvement in the investigation into alleged corruption within the European Parliament.

Today’s activity is linked to the request for a European investigation of last December 11 and is being carried out not only by Milanese financiers, but also by a group of investigators from Brussels, together with the federal prosecutor Raphael Malagnini, who had already stopped in Milan to meet the prosecutor Marcello Viola and the deputy Fabio De Pasquale.

The searches, as well as the interrogation of Antonella Casu, former secretary of the Radicals, are the last piece of the requests of the Belgian magistrates. Casu during his tenure in the party “started the campaign for a transparency register for elected representatives and public officials, to ensure that the activities, choices and behaviors of those who represent us are known to all, and to promote – reads his profile – the kind of transparency he associated with the Parliaments of historic Anglo-Saxon democracies”. After this initiative, the Milan prosecutor’s office will have a discussion (by the end of the month) with the Belgian magistrates, only after which could it open an independent file.

Meanwhile, the NGO’s lawyer specifies that “the association is not being investigated. We have fully collaborated and we trust that as soon as possible we can shed light on all the facts of the investigation, I would like to underline the importance of the work of the human rights association in the world”.
