Morocco’s central bank, Bank Al-Maghrib, has issued a new series of banknotes and coins produced at the State Printing House.
The releases include a new 100 dirham banknote, and coins denoting 10 centimes, 20 centimes, half a dirham, one dirham, five dirhams, and 10 dirhams.
The banknotes and new coins will be released for circulation starting today, with the bank noting that this is part of the issuance of the new series of banknotes and coins.
The 100 dirham banknote reflects Morocco’s cultural heritage of the Sahara desert as well as the region’s economic achievement and the country’s openness to Africa.
Like the rest of Morocco’s banknotes, they feature a picture of King Mohammed VI, the country’s emblem, and other details inspired by traditional Moroccan doors and the orange arches of the Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca.
The note also features a view of Laayoune’s Meshwar Square and the highway connecting Tiznit to Dakhla.
The bank is also expected to issue new banknotes of MAD 20, MAD 50, and MAD 200. The banknotes will be issued according to a decree approving the decision of the central bank regarding the issuance of the new notes.
The decree views the issuance of the new notes as part of the country’s development under King Mohammed VI.
