Ambassador Praises Role of Morocco in Supporting Palestinian Cause

Jamal Al Shobaki, Palestine’s Ambassador to Morocco, has thanked Morocco for supporting Palestine in the midst of Israel’s genocidal war in the Gaza Strip, recalling that the North African country has been a vocal and reliable supporter of the Palestinian cause.

Speaking at a meeting organized on Wednesday in Rabat, the Palestinian diplomat lauded Morocco’s principled solidarity with Palestinians and expressed his appreciation of Morocco’s permanent role in supporting the Palestinian people and their legitimate right to an independent state leadership.

Al Shobaki also recalled a recent “powerful message” that HM the King sent to the Chairman of the Commission for the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinians on the occasion of the Day of Solidarity with the Palestinians.

Through this message and other similar comments he has made on several occasions in recent years and months, the ambassador argued, King Mohammed VI reaffirmed Morocco’s firm support for the Palestinian people and their legitimate rights.

“There is no alternative to a real peace in the region that guarantees the Palestinians their legitimate rights, within the framework of the two-state solution. There is no alternative to an independent Palestinian state, with East Jerusalem as its capital,” the Moroccan monarch had notably said in his message to the Chairman of the Commission for the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinians.

“There is no alternative to strengthening the Palestinian Authority, under the leadership of President Mahmoud Abbas Abu Mazen, nor is there an alternative to establishing mechanisms for sustainable regional security, based on respect for international law and established international references.”

In addition to thanking Morocco for its unwavering support for the Palestinian cause, the ambassador noted Rabat’s historic role in promoting Palestinian rights at the regional and global levels.

In particular, he highlighted Morocco’s hosting of the 1974 Arab summit, where Arab countries for the first time recognized the Palestine Liberation Organization as the sole legitimate representative of the Palestinians.

He also praised the role played by the Bayt Mal Al-Qods Agency in “protecting Arab and Islamic rights in the Holy City and strengthening the steadfastness of its people by supporting and financing programs and projects in various fields.”

Meanwhile, political officials and civil society representatives who attended the meeting stressed that the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People represents an opportunity to remind the world of the necessity of finding a solution to the Palestinian issue in a way that guarantees stability and peace in the region.

They also underscored the right of the Palestinian people to establish their independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital, reflecting Morocco’s long-standing advocacy for a two-state solution that upholds the Palestinians’ inalienable right to national sovereignty and a dignified life.
