High Tea and Fashion: Confections x Collections at Mount Nelson

The Mount Nelson, home of Cape Town’s high tea, is hosting CONFECTIONS x COLLECTIONS, a series of limited edition fashion shows curated by Twyg, this week.

Twyg is a Cape Town-based group of creators that champions sustainability and circular design in South Africa through content and experiences.

The shows, which will feature designer-inspired confectionary and cocktails, take place daily from 16 to 20 November.

The Mount Nelson celebrates creativity, culture and cake by showcasing and celebrating the rise of South African fashion. Guests can expect exclusive viewings of our country’s leading and internationally acclaimed designers.

The shows will include the work of LVMH prize winners Thebe Magugu and Sindiso Khumalo, Lezanne Viviers of VIVIERS Studio, Laduma Ngxokolo of MAXHOSA AFRICA, as well as Maxwell Boko and Mmuso Potsane of MMUSOMAXWELL, winners of the Karl Lagerfeld Award for Innovation at the International Woolmark Prize 2022.

Tea at Mount Nelson has made a name for itself as an iconic Cape Town experience, although it has not typically been associated with fashion – until now. This Belmond hotel is an esteemed establishment that is now following in international footsteps to join those pairing fashion with confectionary.

This sophisticated event joins the likes of Jimmy Choo at London’s The Berkeley, The Parlour at Sketch, and Salon Couture High-Tea at The Savoy.

The Mount Nelson, one of the iconic luxury hotels in the city, has hosted guests over the years including David Bowie and Iman, Charlize Theron, the Dalai Lama and John Lennon. With 123 years of existence, it houses the perfect balance of impressive heritage and modern trends.

In addition to the shows, pastry chef Vicky Gurovich, has collaborated with the designers to create a unique confection of their creation. A specialised cocktail has also been constructed to match each of their shows.

A selection of 62 loose leaf teas, a digestif cart with whiskies, cognacs and liqueurs, plus a barista presenting a variety of single origin African coffees, will also be on offer.

CONFECTIONS X COLLECTIONS will run for five days from 16 to 20 November with two seatings per designer each day at 12pm and 3pm. Tickets sell for R950 per person.
